Ear of Rice grew out of a personal experience surrounding the loss of my grandmother. I became interested in the kind of regret that comes from not realizing a goodbye will be the last one — and how the things left behind can continue to shape relationships after someone is gone. Rather than rewriting that memory with a happier ending, I wanted the film to explore what it means to live with what cannot be changed. In the story, an object left behind by the grandmother becomes a quiet connection between a father and son, allowing their shared grief to gradually lead toward reconciliation and understanding.
