Mirrors & Letters grew out of a personal experience with distance and unresolved conflict between siblings. I was interested in the strange space between resentment and reconciliation — when two people may still care for each other, yet neither is able to take the first step toward making peace. The film imagines a third person stepping into that silence: a mother who wants her younger son to move forward, but also hopes her two sons can reconcile before it is too late. Unable to bring them together, she creates a lie. The lie arrives too late to repair their relationship in life, but it gives the younger brother a way to make peace with his brother after his death. For me, the film asks whether reconciliation must always happen between two people, or whether sometimes it can happen quietly within the person left behind.
