Solace began with my curiosity about families who turn to spiritual belief when confronted with illness, grief, and circumstances beyond their control. I had encountered stories in which faith became a source of hope even when medical intervention was urgently needed, and I became interested not in judging that belief, but in understanding the emotional need behind it. There are no miracles in the world I created for the film. What might appear supernatural can also be understood as coincidence, an open door caught by the wind, or a sound imagined through guilt. Yet to a boy raised within this belief system, those same moments can become evidence of something divine. By connecting faith with his guilt over his mother’s death, I wanted to explore a question at the center of the film: when reality becomes painful to accept, do we search for the truth, or for an explanation that allows us to live with it?
